What To Expect At Eight Weeks Of Pregnancy

At 8 weeks, how large is your baby, belly and symptoms?

In the 8th week, your fetus is actually only 6 weeks old and is about the size of the tip of hour finger.  Yes, all those symptoms and morning sickness are be produced by something so small!

At this point, your fetus is beginning to develop eyelids and the arms and legs are forming from the primary “body”.   A small little nose may be visible, but don’t expect to see fingers or toes yet (only the shape that will turn into them).

8 weeks pregnant belly showing?

At this point, you may begin to show a bit of a belly, although this is as likely to be because of your own body weight as it is the “belly” expanding.  Don’t worry though, putting on weight with pregnancy is a GOOD thing and something to be encouraged!  Remember that a healthy development requires lots of nutrients, so you should continue to eat a healthy diet with an increase in caloric intake to help support the new body functions that you are taking on.

8 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms

Acne in your 8th week.

You thought Acne was a thing of the past did you?  Well the increased hormone production during your pregnancy can produce acne (just like your hormones did as a teenager).  On the flip side, some women see there complexion clear up remarkably.  This is similar to how acne can clear up when on birth control (since many birth controls convince your body it is in fact pregnant).  This need not apply to you as you obviously are not on birth control (if you are still taking BC, stop right away and consult your doctor).

Sciatic Nerve Pain during your 8th week.

Have you had a shooting pain on your butt or upper leg yet?  If not don’t be surprised if you do.    The increased pressure put on your Sciatic nerve can produce some painful results as it is pinched.  This has a way of working itself out, however if you are concerned (or it appears to not be going away) then consult your health provider right away.

Headaches / Migraines in your 8th week.
As if shooting pains and acne was not enough, Migraines and Headaches are a real possibility. You may take Tylenol to help with the headaches as they will be very uncomfortable.  Migraines are a bit less common than headaches, but at least 20% of pregnancies have some sort of migraine symptoms.

Tips for your 8th week of pregnancy

Now that we covered all the down sides to the pregnancy, lets get back on a possitive note!  You are still within your first trimester and soon will be showing.  In the mean time, focus on your health and happiness.  You have many more weeks to go, but don’t worry, that baby will start showing soon.

Find time for a foot massage

This can go a long way in helping you relax, and your feet shouldn’t be as tender as they will soon be.  **cough** Dads…. are you reading this?   If you don’t have handy man around (see what I did there) then you can substitute with a tub of warm water, some Epsom salts and maybe even a bath bomb (a small piece can be used for a foot soak.)

Begin a Weekly Photo Journal

You can see these all over the web, both in photo format and as videos.  Take a side profile photo of yourself and save it on your computer, upload it to facebook or even upload a video to youtube.  Doing this once a week can help you see the progress over time and make a great keep sake to remember this time of development.

Enjoy this week like all the weeks!

It is so important that you keep a possitive mindset through your pregnancy. We encourage all mothers to focus both on a healthy mind as well as a healthy body. How are you enjoying your week? How is the pregnancy going? Leave us a comment, we would love to hear about it!
